Bridging the Electrification Gap with Off-Grid Solutions

Nigeria Info 99.3 live Chat with the Head, Project Management Unit, Nigeria Electrification Project with the theme, Power Solutions: Bridging the Electrification gap with Off-Grid Solutions

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) through the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) have been providing off-grid solutions to bridge the electricity gap in unserved and underserved rural communities which includes households, micro, small, and medium enterprises, Federal Universities, as well as healthcare centers across the six geopolitical zones of the country, with financial support from the World Bank (WB) and African Development Bank (AfDB) respectively.

Head, Project Management Unit (HPMU), of NEP, Anita Otubu representative of the REA, Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad disclosed this on Monday, 12 July 2021 in a live chat on 99.3 FM Radio to discuss about power solutions on ways to increase electrification across Nigeria.

She said “towards achieving a universal access to electrification we are essentially trying to bridge this gap through the provision of solar mini grids, solar home systems, captive independent power plants, and also to stimulate lower demand and to make these mini grid communities a bit more attractive and viable through the provision of productive use appliances”.

She further stated that, the objective of the Nigeria Electrification Project is to provide clean, safe, reliable and affordable electricity access to 2.5 million Nigerians which equates to about 500,000 households. Ensuring that we are able to stimulate the market and provide an enabling environment for private sector companies to come into the off-grid space, to bridge this energy access deficit to help with providing that expertise to achieve an overall universal access to electrification in the country.

She also encouraged more private sector participation and seized the opportunity to invite companies to reach out to NEP through its website @ www.nep.rea.gov.ng for more information on how to apply as it concerns the component that best suits their interest and experience.
