Performance-Based Grant Programme (PBG) aims to close the viability gap for mini grids developed on a spontaneous basis. The communities are identified, verified and sensitized by mini grid developers and they may also use this window to support development of pre-planned projects in their portfolios. Eligible projects are solar hybrid systems which will be deployed in unserved areas, with generation capacity of not more than 1MW.

The total fund available for this sub-component is US$48 Million

Performance-Based Grant

A total of US$48 Million has been assigned for the PBG programme. Grants of US$600/connection, the naira equivalent of which will be disbursed to qualified mini grid developers on a first-come first-serve basis, until the funds are exhausted.

The total amount of grants to be provided are agreed upon based on the total numbers of connections for each site approved by the NEP. Multiple grants are awarded for individual sites submitted by the developers. Grants are disbursed within 3 milestones, these are :

Milestone 1 – Delivering of specific goods to site (Solar Panels, batteries, inverters, distribution poles and meters)
