The Rural Electrification Agency’s MD/CEO, Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad has signed Output-Based Fund (OBF) Grant Agreement with 7 Solar Home Systems (SHS) companies, thus increasing the number of companies in our SHS portfolio from 12 to 19.
The target is to electrify over 1 million households and 90,000 Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises with reliable and affordable electricity.
The SHS Component is one of the best performing components under Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP)
With the signing of these grant agreements, there are expectations for significant upscaling of the Solar Home System Market in Nigeria to enable REA electrify 1 Million households by the end of the project
The REA SHS Component Head, Ifunanya Nwandu-Dozie, has this to say: “I am very happy that despite the strains due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we still hit this milestone in 2020 while pushing forth the mandate of powering homes in Nigeria using the Standalone Solar Home Systems” – Ifunanya Nwandu-Dozie.
