REA-NEP NEW HPMU PERFORMS FIRST OFFICIAL ASSIGNMENT

The new Head Project Management Unit (HPMU) of the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP); Abba Aliyu Abubakar, performed his first official engagement on Thursday, 5th January 2023, at the conference room of the NEP Project Management Unit (PMU) office. In his debut, the HPMU presided over the last Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractor’s kick-off meeting, under the Energizing Education Programme (EEP) Phase II with Dongfang Electric Corporation (DEC), emerging as the successful contractor for Lot 3 of the EEP phase II.

The HPMU held similar meetings with Em-One Energy Solutions JV, ZnShine Solar, Dongfang Electric Corporation – Mutual Commitment Company (DEC-MCC) JV and Eauxwell – Greencells JV, with a twin purpose.

The first was to provide clarity to the contractors on project specifics including requirements of the terms of procurement, the technical scope and lines of reporting, the financial terms and processes, as well as the project management guidelines. The second objective was to formally introduce the Project Owner’s Engineer (PoE) consultant, charged with supervision and administration of technical requirements.

In his opening remarks, the HPMU informed the meeting that the EEP has recorded tremendous success and promised to improve on what has been achieved so far. He assured the contractors of his support during the project execution and beyond. The contractor’s team led by Mr. Liu, appreciated the hospitality of the NEP team and commended them for hosting the pre-construction meeting, while providing assurances of strict adherence of all processes enshrined in  the contract, with a commitment to timely delivery subject to necessary approvals.

Other NEP team members: Environmental and Social (E&S) team; the Procurement Specialist, Engr. Timothy; and Engr. Jaafar Dikko, discussed their unit requirements as the component lead, Engr. Joro Sallau, coordinated the meeting.

Abba Aliyu succeeded Anita Otubu who has taken up another role, having served with the PMU diligently from January 2020 to November 2022 as the Head, PMU of the NEP.
