The Federal Government of Nigeria has increasingly adopted off-grid solutions for the electrification of rural communities, through fostering partnerships with private sector renewable energy companies, international financial institutions and development partners for implementation, technical and financial support services.
In view of the Government’s provision of an enabling environment to bridge the electrification gap with renewable energy solutions, the Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund (NIDF) has recently invested the sum of N1.8billion ($4.6million) to Havenhill Synergy (solar mini-grid supplier) to deploy 22 mini-grids under the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP). The solar mini-grids are expected to provide electricity access to over 70,000 people and power SMEs and businesses in rural communities.
