On March 3rd 2020, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) signed grant agreements for 2 communities – Oloibiri and Akipelai Bayelsa State, with Renewvia Solar Nigeria under the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP).
The signing, which took place at the Rural Electrification Agency HQ, Abuja, was for the Solar Hybrid Mini Grids Performance Based Grant (PBG).
Renewia Solar Nigeria is the second company to sign agreements under the program. The PBG has signed two (2) renewable energy companies, namely: Powergen and Renewvia Solar, Nigeria. Powergen has signed to electrify 10 communities in Niger State, making it 12 communities under NEP in the goal to increase electricity access to unserved and underserved communities across Nigeria.
The grant agreement signing for the performance-based grant (PBG) moves the NEP, FGN, REA and World Bank one step closer to electrifying Nigeria, one community at a time. This event is a milestone towards energizing over 2.5 million Nigerians with clean, safe, reliable and affordable electricity.
