Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) holds its 3rd Performance Based Grant Roundtable under the Solar Hybrid Mini Grid Component
On February 18th, 2020, the Rural Electrification Agency in collaboration with the World Bank, held the 3rd Performance Based Grant Roundtable under the Solar Hybrid Mini grid component of the Nigerian Electrification Project (NEP) in Abuja, Nigeria.
The meeting began with opening remarks from the MD/CEO REA, Ahmad Salihijo commending the great work the NEP has been doing so far and declared his total commitment to ensuring that adequate support and enabling environment are created for all the minigrid developers to protect their investments and returns while impacting the lives of Nigerians with clean, safe, reliable and affordable electricity in the off-grid communities and empowering them into productive use of energy.
Anita Otubu, Acting Project Head Project Management Unit (Ag. HPMU) welcomed all roundtable participants. Mrs. Otubu reiterated the importance of the event and encouraged participants to ask questions, share their concerns and challenges in the field, which was the aim of the event, to address those issues to ensure success during project implementation.
Also, presentations were delivered for developers willing to access the Performance Based Grant subcomponent under Component 1 (Solar mini-grids) of the Nigerian Electrification Project led by the Component head, Lolade Abiola and Ashish Shresta, Team Lead for Mini grid from the World Bank
The main objective of the 3rd PBG Round Table event was to bring private developers, NEP project management unit (PMU), and the implementing Agency (REA) together to provide clarifications on application requirements as related to NERC, Odyssey platform, Environmental and Social Safeguards and relevant questions pertaining to the PBG, as well as share challenges that developers face in the field to enable the PMU and REA provide guidance and answers to ensure there is synergy between all parties to bridge the electricity gap and reach the goal of powering Nigeria, One community at a time.
