Powering Nigeria and catalyzing sustainable off grid development

The Nigeria Electrification Programme (NEP) is a Federal Government (FG) initiative that is private sector driven and seeks to bridge the energy access deficit by providing electricity to households, MSMEs, educational and healthcare facilities in unserved and underserved rural communities through the deployment of mini grids, Standalone Solar Home Systems (SHS), rooftop solar, captive power plants and productive use appliances to ensure sustainability of these off-grid solutions.

Originally launched as the Nigeria Electrification Project, a $550 million USD intervention funded by the World Bank and African Development Bank, NEP has delivered transformative results through its various initiatives. Building on this foundation, the programme now incorporates the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-Up (DARES), which expands NEP’s focus to scale up renewable energy solutions further and enhance private sector participation in Nigeria's electrification journey.

Together, these components reflect NEP’s commitment to fostering economic growth, improving livelihoods, and advancing Nigeria’s energy transition plan. The programme aligns with the government’s Renewable Energy Policy, delivering sustainable energy to power homes, businesses, and public institutions while contributing to Nigeria’s global climate commitments. NEP is currently Implementing the following; Minimum Subsidy Tender (MST-WB), Minimum Subsidy Tender (MST-AfDB), Performance Based Grants (PBG-WB), Covid-19 & Beyond Intervention (WB), Standalone Solar Home Systems for Households and MSMEs (WB), Results Based Financing for Productive Appliances & Equipment (AfDB), Energizing Education Programme Phase II (WB), Energizing Education Programme Phase III (AfDB), Technical Assistance (WB) & Technical Assistance (AfDB).
