As part of its commitment to transparency and accountability in implementing Africa Development Bank (AfDB) funded Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) through Nigeria Electrification Programme, on 9th September, 2025 successfully conducted one day bid submission and public opening exercise for the Interconnected Mini-Grid – Minimum Subsidy Tender (MST) component of the program. The strategic exercise recorded a total of 30 bids, all of which were duly submitted at the NEP Office and subsequently opened in a transparent manner at Chelsea Hotel, Abuja.
The bid opening session, which lasted for several hours, brought together the AfDB-NEP project team, project developers, Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) and other key stakeholders within Nigeria’s power sector ecosystem. In line with global best practices and AfDB procurement guidelines, all submitted bid documents were opened publicly. These included the letters of bid, financial offers, and proposed subsidy or discount submission for the project.
Meanwhile, each documents submitted were openly reviewed in the presence of all participants, with bidders given the opportunity to confirm the accuracy and completeness of their submissions. The process concluded with bidders and stakeholders formally acknowledging the exercise by signing off the opened documents, reinforcing confidence in the integrity of the process.
Therefore, the transparent and inclusive bid opening exercise once again underscores REA-AfDB-NEP’s commitment to accountability, fairness, and competitive procurement. By fostering trust among developers, DISCOs, and sector stakeholders, the MST bid opening marks a critical milestone in advancing interconnected mini-grid development and accelerating Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable and reliable electricity access.
