Yesterday at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Headquarters, the Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Abba Aliyu, received Jie Tang, the World Bank’s Energy Sector Practice Manager, who visited as part of his mission to Nigeria. The meeting had in attendance Olufemi Akinyelure, Head of the Nigeria Electrification Programme (NEP), and Engr. Umar Abdullahi Umar, Executive Director, Technical Services and other REA team, who joined the MD/CEO in engaging the visiting team
The engagement provided an important platform to review progress under the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-Up (DARES) Programme and assess milestones achieved across the Nigerian Electrification Programme (NEP). Discussions focused on ongoing implementation efforts, project performance, and opportunities to accelerate energy access delivery nationwide.
Mr. Tang reaffirmed the World Bank’s strong confidence in REA’s capacity to deliver at scale and emphasized the Agency’s pivotal role as a key implementing partner in advancing Nigeria’s electrification agenda. The REA expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s continued support and reiterated its commitment to delivering sustainable, people-centered energy solutions for Nigerians.
